Teeth bonding is an alternative to ceramic (porcelain) veneers. Tooth bonding is a minimally invasive solution to improve the aesthetics of the teeth. Reconstruction is carried out using composites – the same in the treatment of caries. The doctor applies the composite material directly to the patient’s tooth, hence it is sometimes called a direct composite tooth restoration or composite veneer.
The shade of the composite can be adapted to the color of the teeth, which makes the filling well integrated. It is also an extremely flexible material, thanks to which it is easy to model it so that it adheres perfectly to the enamel and eliminates defects on the surface of the teeth.
Teeth bonding is a quick solution for:
- repair of “chipping” and cracks in the teeth,
- correction of the shape of the teeth (both length and width),
- removal of blemishes, stains and discoloration of teeth,
- filling enamel cavities,
- removal of the diastema (closing the gap between the teeth),
- crooked teeth to correct their shape and position – straightening without braces (qualification is made by the doctor during the consultation)
Bonding – main advantages:
- immediate aesthetic effect – most often the entire procedure takes place during one visit
removal of discoloration, alignment of the shape of the teeth and their color, - painless – it does not even require the use of local anesthesia,
- low invasiveness and reversibility – bonding, unlike veneers, does not affect the structure of the tooth, so you can easily return to the state before the metamorphosis, e.g. when the patient decides to use another treatment method, e.g. porcelain veneers, over time,
- definitely lower costs than prosthetic treatment (veneers).
Bonding – contraindications to the procedure:
A composite veneer cannot be placed on a dead tooth, a tooth with symptoms of caries and very large fillings. In such cases, crowns are the recommended solution. Another contraindication is bruxism (the habitual grinding and grinding of teeth) and gum and periodontal diseases.
